The time-, energy- and cost-efficient induction brazing for cylindrical tanks has recently been demonstrated by UltraFlex Power Technologies.
Ronkonkoma, NY – USA | January 13, 2021 –(Press Release Wire)– UltraFlex – a manufacturer of digitally controlled induction heaters – has set up this test induction heating application per request of a customer – a propane tank manufacturer – looking to improve their manufacturing process by replacing traditional furnace heating with induction heating. The goal was to evaluate the heating parameters for this induction brazing scenario, the induction heating equipment most appropriate for the customer needs and the quality of the end result achieved.
UltraFlex induction heater from the UltraHeat W series had been considered most appropriate for this induction heating scenario. UltraHeat W is an advanced, cost-effective 5-15 kW Induction Heating system utilizing the latest switching power supply technology. It features flexible, wide range load impedance matching by utilizing multiple transformer ratios and configurable tank capacitance.
The induction brazing process had been started by putting the steel tanks to be brazed inside an induction coil custom designed by UltraFlex. At power output of 12 kW, it took mere 15 seconds to reach the target temperature of 800°C (1472°F). The end result was perfectly brazed parts achieved at a fraction of the usual time and energy needed when furnace-based heating is used.
Thanks to the digital control of the heating process, it ensured fully repeatable and consistent results every time, with no dependency on the operator skills. Thus when implemented on the customer’s production line, this induction brazing process would immensely increase productivity and energy efficiency. Finally, due to the lack of open flame, it would be a green operation, with no smoke and noxious emissions.
